UK Ring Size Guide

Ring sizes in the UK use letters, from A for the smallest to Z for the largest, with half sizes in between. Use the chart below to find your size from the inside circumference of your finger or of a ring that fits you, and to convert between UK and US sizes.

How to measure your ring size at home

Method 1: with a ring that already fits

  1. Choose a ring worn on the same finger as the new ring, and on the same hand.
  2. Lay it flat on a ruler and measure the inside diameter in millimetres, from edge to edge across the middle.
  3. Find the closest diameter in the chart above. That is your UK size.

Method 2: with a strip of paper or string

  1. Wrap a thin strip of paper or a piece of non-stretch string around the base of your finger.
  2. Mark the point where it overlaps. It should be snug but still slide over your knuckle.
  3. Lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres. This is your circumference.
  4. Find the closest circumference in the chart. That is your UK size.

Tips for an accurate size

  • Measure at the end of the day. Fingers are smaller in the morning and when cold.
  • Check your knuckle. If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
  • Wide bands need more room. For bands wider than about 6 mm, go half a size up.
  • Measure three times. Take the size you get most often.

Buying a ring as a surprise?

Borrow a ring they wear on the same finger and measure it with method 1, or draw around the inside of it on paper. A sterling silver ring can usually be resized by a jeweller. Tungsten rings cannot be resized, so check the size carefully first.
