How to measure your ring size at home
Method 1: with a ring that already fits
- Choose a ring worn on the same finger as the new ring, and on the same hand.
- Lay it flat on a ruler and measure the inside diameter in millimetres, from edge to edge across the middle.
- Find the closest diameter in the chart above. That is your UK size.
Method 2: with a strip of paper or string
- Wrap a thin strip of paper or a piece of non-stretch string around the base of your finger.
- Mark the point where it overlaps. It should be snug but still slide over your knuckle.
- Lay it flat and measure the length in millimetres. This is your circumference.
- Find the closest circumference in the chart. That is your UK size.
Tips for an accurate size
- Measure at the end of the day. Fingers are smaller in the morning and when cold.
- Check your knuckle. If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between.
- Wide bands need more room. For bands wider than about 6 mm, go half a size up.
- Measure three times. Take the size you get most often.
Buying a ring as a surprise?
Borrow a ring they wear on the same finger and measure it with method 1, or draw around the inside of it on paper. A sterling silver ring can usually be resized by a jeweller. Tungsten rings cannot be resized, so check the size carefully first.
